Situated within Columbia County, Evans is an eastern Georgia town with a population of almost 30,000 people. The Town of Evans is a suburb of Augusta, Georgia and is most likely named in honor of Confederate General Clement A. Evans. Currently, Evans is the de facto county seat of Columbia County. The community of Appling currently holds the actual title of the county seat for Columbia County.
